Introduction

Gut microbiota promote human gastrointestinal health, and the disruption of gut microbiota is related to the occurrence and development of many diseases. Supplementing probiotics is a commonly method for altering the gut microbiota to improve health. However, there is no clear literature on the impact of probiotics on the gut microbiota of healthy adults.

Therefore, based on preclinical studies such as previous animal experiments, we evaluated the impact of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus LRa05 on the gut microbiota of healthy adults, including gastrointestinal tolerance, safety, and intestinal colonization, to clarify the impact of LRa05 on the gut microbiota.

Study Design

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted among participants who were randomly divided into a placebo (maltodextrin group) and a probiotic LRa05 intervention group (10B CUF/d) for 4 weeks. Using 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing to study the changes of gut microbiota

Key Findings

✓ LRa05 significantly increases the abundance of intestinal Lactobacillus in healthy adults

✓ LRa05 has the potential of gastrointestinal tolerance and colonization, and regulates the gut microbiota, reduced the potential for pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella

Future Direction

✓ Validation and expansion of preclinical studies based on the early LRa05 animal experiments

✓ Explore the effects of LRa05 on gut health in a wider population

✓Clinical evidence-based dosage, safety, and indications of LRa05 candidate drugs
